Like walking on water

What a bank holiday.........is it really work tomorrow?
Cycling to Kings Cross........what was i thinking? Felt great afterwards though.
Party time at Woz and Em's place. We even got to take the boat out on the river, hard work but great fun. Sorry Andrew (sure i did'nt mean it)
Its great to just get away from things once in a while (this seems to come up alot lately), i guess that was the reason i started writing his blog.
How long has it actually been since i've seen my friends, i hardly even recognised Nate, wow, gotta make a plan. Guys, if you reading this, braai at my house whenever you are available.
What a blessed life we live.

In memory of - a post written for events on Friday 4th May 2007

Its weird, the last time you touch, see and ride something before passing it on to some very deserving person. Yes, there comes a time in every mans life when he has to part with a machine he has on many occasions cursed and been grateful for, all in the same breath. Now i know this sounds awefully materialistic, but you ask anyone who has owned a bike before, it just becomes an extension of who you are (for the time you have it, that is)

One and a half years of time and effort invested into her wellbeing, countless funds used in feeding, cleaning, securing and maintaining her, only to move into that place where your heart fears to tread. Who owned who i ask myself now................. Who?

Colour

I know its been a while since last writing, but here it is

Two weeks ago we had our annual womens conference 'COLOUR'

Imagine this, 3400 women in the Royal Albert Hall, All wanting a better relationship with God, all being equiped to go out and affect the lives of those around them....... and those they may not even get to meet. How awesome is that, and i got to be a part of making this happen.....WOW!!

God is good!!

Another hot day, not wasted

What a great Easter, no easter eggs received, but i am still smiling about it, managed to spend the Friday and Saturday with Frans and friends in Woolwich. We had a ball.

Got to go to Camden yesterday on my day off, just watching the boats up and down the canal, going through the locks, etc....... Great weather.

Did not last all too long though, so decided to take a nice long walk on the south side of the Thames from Canada Water to Bermondsey. WOW!!! Totally amazing the houses and scenery, the pubs, the parks and the boats on the water.
The sun was the best part of it all, after an hour and a half, a bit of fatigue (and the cricket on tv) set in and i just had to give in to the nicest pub/carvery establishment i have seen on the river. Well you judge these pics for yourself, I have lived in this area for 4 years and did not even know the extent of beauty that surrounded me.

Best quote of all times

''Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.'' by Marianne Williamson

Long time no hear

So i have been really lazy of late, what can i say, things sort of catch up with you, at first when you try something new it goes all too well and then you just get into a bit of a rut, guess you just gotta try and make it a positive rut instead, more like a speed hump where you can get along at a steady pace and every once in a while, get a reminder that you are still on the path. Point to this is that i will be making a point of keeping this blog up to date.

Scorcher

Well well, if you were in East London today, well yesterday at about lunch time, you would have noticed the little heat wave we were blessed with. So much so that i decided to take a drive down to city airport, and catch some zzzzzz on the bench.
Oh it was just amazing. Basically picture this, the sun beating down on my nearly clean shaven head, then canal/lake water rippling aided by the slightest of breezes and airplanes taking off to who knows what exotic location. Oh yeah
Well, this lasted for all of 25mins, then it was time to get back to work. i guess good things come and good things go, they do stay when you are ready to handle it though, this i know.

Ouch!

So i finally got off my butt yesterday and managed a cycle, tell you it was great, getting the feeling accomplishment at first, and then finding out how unfit i had actually become.
i have now made up my mind to make a concerted effort to get to the fitness level i was at before i got this lazy,it just creeps up on you.

The start of a long journey

Woke up this morning thinking - 'what am i doing with my life at the moment that is even remotely close to the first 3 years i spent in this beautiful country'. have i finally just had enough, and was the answer to move on.
I guess when you leave it to just play on your mind and not do anything about it for as long as i have then you have some admin work to do to sort it out.
Saw this series the other day where they actually said, ' we go through different stages in our lives, no matter what it is we actually do, what it comes down to is once in a while, if we do not take the time to just sit back, relax and sort out the filing work, lifes gonna overtake us'

My name is Lindsay Elms, and i have been on an adventure for the last 5+ years. I came over to the UK in 2001, just after that fateful events of 9/11.
The first years, being the first time i have left Cape Town, were awesome. i met new people, experienced new cultures and got involved in an amazing church, which i will say is going stronger than ever.
My studies led me down the road of civil engineering, which is totally an amazing field to be in, don't get me wrong as i am fully a technical person, but my heart beats to a different tune. I love physical excitement, anything from walking up a trail at 4 in the morning to jumping off the side of a bridge with nothing but a few pieces of elasticated rope tied to your ankles.

London has been amazing, now remember, ihave been living in sunny Cape Town for over twenty years of my life, 30mins from 3 completely seperate beaches, and London is the place that i decide to start scuba diving. I love it, well a group of us decided to go out and get to grips with what nature had been calling us to for what must have been forever, and wow was it worth it.
Of course this is not the only thing that has managed to keep me sain in an otherwise 'interesting' world, ive been snowboarding, where i managed to dislocate my arm on the first day, i love cycling (after successfully completing a 105km race, i managed to come off the bike and dislocate an arm as well), i love hiking, playing sports, camping and biking (motorbiking). I love my friends and i love GOD.

This is where i hope the journey to begin again. The road lies ahead of me like an uncharted highway, with miles upon miles of travel in it, all i have to do, is enjoy the ride.

This blog has been inspired by the tragic sudden death of a colleague - Phillip Slim, may his memories live on forever
